Maha Eliya Plain or Horton Plains is one of the most beautiful places in Sri Lanka. There is a different world there that is not seen anywhere else in Sri Lanka. It takes about 5 hours to walk to see the special places in Horton Plains.

For Horton Plains visitors Words end , Little worlds end , Baker's Falls , Chimney Pond , Kirigalpottha mountain You can see the Thotupolakanda mountain.
On the way you can see the sambers with big horns. Some of them are very tame and are accustomed to eating human food. Also the most beautiful leopards in Sri Lanka are found. There were elephants in the Horton Plains in the past but they are not seen today.
Maharatmal endemic to Sri Lanka can be foundthroughout the high biodiversity Horton Plains. In addition, there are Bovitiya and many other endemic plants.
You can see the lower Worlds end Ratnapura District, Balangoda Town, Kiriketi Oya, Nonpareil Estate. As you pass the Worlds end, you will come Baker's Falls.
This is named after the Englishman Samuel Baker. He found this waterfall while he was hunting sumbers here. It is mentioned in his 1853 book THE RIFLE AND THE HOUND IN CEYLON.
If you plan to visit Horton Plains, plan to get there around 10 - 12 in the morning. Also, if you choose a day with fairly clear weather, you will be able to see the beauty of the world below.
